Installing Roller Barrier on Mesh Fencing

Installing Roller Barrier on Mesh Fencing

Mesh fencing is widely used around all manner of properties including schools, sports facilities, parks and commercial premises. Some forms of mesh fencing are specifically designed to deter climbers by presenting apertures that are simply too small to gain a foot or hand hold. But there are other types of mesh fencing that are quite easy to climb, especially by youngsters with smaller feet and hands.

Its therefore not surprising that premises protected by mesh fencing often seek simple enhancements to bolster security and prevent climbers from scaling their fences. Roller Barrier is now widely used to provide a safe but insurmountable anti climb fence-top barrier on all manner of mesh fencing.

If the mesh fencing has larger apertures then its recommended to install a narrow band of anti-climb security mesh along the top section of the fencing, overlaying the existing large aperture fencing.

Mesh fencing is typically supported by fence posts, spaced at around 2.4 metre intervals. Roller Barrier mounting brackets can be reliably attached to these posts but its essential to support Roller Barrier at no less than 2 metre intervals. This requires mounting brackets attached to the mesh fencing.

While it would be possible to install Roller Barrier using the standard mounting brackets, there is the possibility that this form of mounting would not provide adequate strength when force is applied. The solution is our specially designed bracing plates that provide a reliable, strong fixing by sandwiching the mesh fencing between the plate and support bracket. This robust assembly is held together using coach bolts with one way security shear nuts, to prevent tampering or removal.

In practice each 2.4 metre section of mesh fencing would have Roller Barrier support brackets on each of the fence posts along with a mid point support bracket attached to the fence top using our specially designed bracing plate. We offer two different types of bracing plate; one for use with cranked Roller Barrier support brackets and the other for use with the straight, twist bracket.

As previously noted, mesh fencing with larger apertures can provide easy hand and foot holds, especially for youngsters, so it is recommended that a band or security mesh fencing, with smaller apertures, is installed at the top of the fencing, sitting on top of the existing mesh fencing. The Roller Barrier mesh fencing bracing plates can be robustly attached to the reinforced mesh fence top.

The addition of Roller Barrier as an anti climb fence topper is already protecting many premises from unwelcome intruders.
